Teh hunter is a beautiful thing.  We get to shoot stuff for a living, and look very sexy doing it.  We are the footmen, going out to kill whatever Don Kethlyr is pissed at that day.

/blah

Post your hunter shit here.
I'll start us off with a great hunter website: TKA Something.

Enjoy!
And here's one more extremely well made guide.

The Hunters Guide to Being Useful
hmmmm Iaki, i almost already like you.
Why thank you Vrat.
whoa that wasnt a compliment yet....
All I'll say is I love your sig! Big Grin

The Raid Drinking Maneuver

While fighting a boss or something like that, our mana can run out very quickly. Therefore, I use the following procedure to drink in the middle of a fight.

  1. Make sure your pet is dead or dismissed.
  2. Feign Death
  3. WHILE FEIGNED - Click your water hotkey and you will pop out of feign death, start drinking, and enter back into combat.

If you do this correctly, you will be able to drink while in combat.

The Raid Naked Wipe Maneuver

Becuase I'm such a nice guy angel, i'll share one of my oldest trade secrets, complete with pictures for Vrat. STRIPPING!

This little thingy requires you to have Itemrack installed in your addons directory, and a lot of careful preparation before its used. For those who've never used itemrack before, here's a tutorial.

For your normal gear set, right click on each of the slots in itemrack, and select your normal raid/dps/kickass gear.
Choose an icon in the center of the screen to become the hotkey for that set. Once you enter a name, save the set and use the "Bind Key" button to have it set to your keyboard.

To make your naked set, hover over each of the slots and select the empty icon. However, make sure the slot has a blue glow around it. If there is no glow, it is not included in character modifications.
Choose a different icon, save the set, and bind it to an unused key on your keyboard, preferably close to the old one.

IMPORTANT NOTES!:
  • Make sure you are feigned and out of combat. If your pet is in combat, it won't work.
  • Just before you strip/die, drop an Elune Stone so everybody in the raid focuses in on you. Mail me if you want one. I'll mail one to you.

Enjoy,
Sean aok
man im really starting to almost like this guy...
Yay! Someone almost likes me! Big Grin

I think I know now why students flip out and go on rampages. Damn research projects. gun[teacher]
do what i did, just dont go to class. means you wont be there to pick up the tedious homework assignments ergo no work for you....
No matter what spec your hunter is, they each have their strengths and weaknesses. However, there is much debate about which spec is good for specific things. Therefore, I'm going to compare each spec using only talents in that tree.

A test hunter was made in my CTProfiles that is the base gear with no talents or things what soever. Just really badass gear. Big Grin. That hunter can be reached by clicking -->here<--

He looked like this:

In a nutshell he has the following stats.

Health: 5956 Melee Attack Power: 1228
Mana: 5932 Melee Damage: 565-679
Strength: 124
Agility: 482
Stamina: 365 Ranged Attack Power: 1175
Intellect: 260 Ranged Damage: 400-536
Spirit: 91
Armor: 5269

Critical Strike: 11.64%
Ranged Critical Strike: 11.64%
Chance to Hit: +2.6%
Damage Reduction: 45.35%
Dodge: 14.48%
Parry: 5%

Not bad eh? Let's continue.

Beast Mastery Speciality
The beast mastery tree contains many spells for upgrading your pet's damage. You and your meat shield also get speed upgrades and attack bonuses. This tree is often described as the "solo" tree, since your pet rarely dies, or if it does, you can revive it quickly. 60 points total can be invested in this tree if every slot is filled, however, only 41 are needed to reach the top tier talent, "The Beast Within".

Health: 6253 Melee Attack Power: 1288
Mana: 5932 Melee Damage: 565-679
Strength: 124
Agility: 482
Stamina: 365 Ranged Attack Power: 1175
Intellect: 260 Ranged Damage: 400-536
Spirit: 91
Armor: 5269

Critical Strike: 11.64%
Ranged Critical Strike: 11.64%
Chance to Hit: +2.6%
Damage Reduction: 45.35%
Dodge: 17.48%
Parry: 5%

Changes: +3% to dodge
+297 Health

Marksmanship Stats
The Marksmanship tree is all about damage, hence the name marksman. Bow attacks are upgraded, and damage output is increased. The Marksmanship tree has a total of 65 possible talents, but I used only 60, not including "Improved Concussive Shot".

Health: 5956 Melee Attack Power: 1297
Mana: 6157 Melee Damage: 567-681
Strength: 124
Agility: 492
Stamina: 365 Ranged Attack Power: 1438
Intellect: 275 Ranged Damage: 477-620
Spirit: 91
Armor: 5289

Critical Strike: 11.88%
Ranged Crit.: 16.88%
Chance to Hit: +2.6%
Damage Reduction: 45.44%
Dodge: 14.88%
Parry: 5%

Stat Changes: +225 Mana
+10 Agility
+15 Intellect
+20 Armor
+0.9% Damage Reduction
+0.24% Chance to Critically Hit
+0.4% Chance to Dodge
+69 Melee Attack Power
+263 Ranged Attack Power
-10% Mana Costs on all shots and stings
Effects of hunter's mark apply to melee attack power as well.

Survival Speciality
You...don't...die. And your feigns are never resisted. I was survival or "melee" hunter until the 41 point trees came out, and think this is a useful spec. The survival tree has 64 possible talents slots, but only 61 were used, omitting "Resourcefulness".

Health: 6551
Mana: 5932
Strength: 124
Agility: 554
Stamina: 365
Intellect: 260
Spirit: 91
Armor: 5414

Critical Strike: 16.5%
Ranged Crit.: 16.5%
Chance to Hit: +5.6%
Damage Reduction: 46.02%
Dodge: 17.47%
Parry: 10%

Changes: +595 Health
+72 Agility
+145 Armor
+4.86% Chance to Critically Hit
+3% Chance to Hit
+0.67% Damage Reduction
+2.99% Chance to Dodge
+5% to Parry
+6 Yards to All ranged Attacks
+3% Damage and Crit Damage to Beasts Giants and Dragonkin
+3% Damage and Crit Damage to Humanoids

VERDICT
  • Beast mastery is good for soloing.
  • Marksmanship is good for shelling out DPS in raids and BG's, but you won't live too long.
  • Survival is good for not dying and for the "Jumper Cable Rezzer" in raids.

Yay for CTProfiles!

Musically,
Seanaok
Nice writeup!

Thanks,
Ack
Thanks, I try. Smile
Ohhh my hunter is lvl 14, and I've yet to really spend any talent points on her, this is so helpful! Thanks Iaki. Maybe I should play her more... =D
Very nice layout Iaki!

So based upon that data, if you wanted the best chance to kite general Drak in UBRS (for example), survival would be the best shot at that one task?
Yes, however, if you want to chance a resisted feign, the +8% speed increase from the beast mastery talent "Pathfinding" is extremely helpful in boosting your distance.

I've had no trouble with General Drakkisath (read: old asshole) with either spec.

Hope that helps. dance
hmmmmm i know this guy's new to the guild but im considering letting him be the hunter class leader with his savvy knowledge and witty humor. now if i were an officer i could get that done.
