No matter what spec your hunter is, they each have their strengths and weaknesses. However, there is much debate about which spec is good for specific things. Therefore, I'm going to compare each spec using
only talents in that tree.
A test hunter was made in my CTProfiles that is the base gear with no talents or things what soever. Just really badass gear.

. That hunter can be reached by clicking -->

Not bad eh? Let's continue.
Beast Mastery Speciality
The beast mastery tree contains many spells for upgrading your pet's damage. You and your meat shield also get speed upgrades and attack bonuses. This tree is often described as the "solo" tree, since your pet rarely dies, or if it does, you can revive it quickly. 60 points total can be invested in this tree if every slot is filled, however, only 41 are needed to reach the top tier talent, "The Beast Within".

Marksmanship Stats
The Marksmanship tree is all about damage, hence the name marksman. Bow attacks are upgraded, and damage output is increased. The Marksmanship tree has a total of 65 possible talents, but I used only 60, not including "Improved Concussive Shot".
Health: 5956 Melee Attack Power: 1297

Effects of hunter's mark apply to melee attack power as well.
Survival Speciality
You...don't...die. And your feigns are never resisted. I was survival or "melee" hunter until the 41 point trees came out, and think this is a useful spec. The survival tree has 64 possible talents slots, but only 61 were used, omitting "Resourcefulness".

+2.99% Chance to Dodge
+5% to Parry
+6 Yards to All ranged Attacks
+3% Damage and Crit Damage to Beasts Giants and Dragonkin
+3% Damage and Crit Damage to Humanoids
VERDICT
- Beast mastery is good for soloing.
- Marksmanship is good for shelling out DPS in raids and BG's, but you won't live too long.
- Survival is good for not dying and for the "Jumper Cable Rezzer" in raids.
Yay for CTProfiles!
Musically,
Sean
