Guide to Guild Instance Runs: Looting, etc.
By Vrat and Kethlyr
- Rule number one: Do not talk about fight... Oh wait those are different rules to something else.
- The most important of all Rules to follow of course is: NO NINJA LOOTING!!! I can not stress the fact that this will NOT be tolerated amongst the guild and you will be booted/banned/raped/murdered and not necessarily in that order. For those of you who don't know what NINJA LOOTING is, I suggest that you go to the Glossary for n00bs, which our very own Brennin was nice enough to compile. (Also note that you will be considered a giant n00b if you have no idea what Ninja Looting means.)
- When it comes to BoP items (also in Glossary for n00bs,) everyone should always pass on the item. Since everyone passes on the item, no one will pick it up and the item will remain on the corpse. This is to allow the group to come to a unanimous decision on who should recieve that item. Also it is to reduce the chances of a toon recieving an item useless to its class. In other words, if Robes of Arugl were to drop, everyone should pass on it and use the party channel to figure out who should get it. If no one needs the item, it should go to an enchanter who can DE the item for mats, and then the group can either roll on the mats or let the Enchanter keep them.
- Don't loot anything until all combat has finished and everyone is alive. Having to roll for an item can distract other party members from fighting and is pretty annoying, especially if they have to stop and check whether or not the item is an upgrade for them. The one exception to this rule is when you're being run through an instance by a higher level who probably doesn't care about the loot. Also, if characters are dead, wait for them to be rezed before looting, or they may not get a chance at the loot.
- If the master looter system is being used, wait until the master looter links an item to roll on it. Any rolls made before an item is linked will not be counted as a roll for the item. All BoE items should be held on to and rolled on at the end of the run. Do not leave the instance until all loot has been given away. Who knows? Somebody may decide they don't want something at the last minute! (Hey, it's happened before.)
- Each member of a party or raid is allowed one blue item and one set piece. (However, if more than one set piece or blue item that a character needs drops, he or she may have them if nobody else in the party needs them.)
- Always follow and listen to the person in charge of running the instance. Generally, lower level characters should follow the lead of any high-level characters, as they are being polite enough to run you through the dungeon. (Such things as, "Stay back" and "Dont Aggro" come to mind.) If you dont listen, the person in charge of the instance run could justifiably (and with the support of many sympathetic high-level guildies) leave you stranded in the middle of the instance to teach you how frustrating it is to have no one listen to you. If it's an at-level dungeon run, the leader is basically whomever the group unanimously decides should lead. This should be someone who is familiar with the instance as well as the capabilities of each party member. Ideally, if there is an officer in the party, they should be the leader.
- Do not start new quests within the instance without permission of the rest of the group. No escort quests may be commenced without the go ahead from the rest of the party as this will lead to a failure of the quest if not everyone is ready. Also, it is a courteous and accepted practice to share all of your quests with your party before starting the instance.
- Speak up. If you went past the area in which the quest you went in to do, say something. Sometimes people forget where quests finish or what the quest requirements are, (especially if they ran it a while back, and are only running the instance to help you out.) So try to keep the person in charge informed at all times, but in a courteous manner.
